Sedgman Onyx’s founding project was the successful plant closure for the HISmelt iron-making plant in Kwinana, Western Australia including decommissioning and demolition. 

HISmelt iron-making plant in Kwinana, Western Australia including decommissioning and demolition. The plant closure project involved initial studies investigating demolishing the plant and returning the land to the leaseholder. We then completed the remainder of the works on an engineering, procurement and construction management basis including planning, cost control, preparing detailed work methods statements and managing site works. This included safe decommissioning, disassembly, demolition and site remediation for a complex site on a small footprint. 

The successful completion of the high-risk project resulted in the project being nominated for a global Rio Tinto excellence award.
